You will need to know how much a curl bar weighs for you to either buy the same type you use at the gym or write down how much you’re lifting accurately.
How Much does A Curl Bar Weigh
Different manufacturer’s bars will vary in weight, but when you group them into the three different categories that curl bars come in, you’ll find that they are very similar.
If you’re buying a curl bar for your home gym, then it’s pretty easy to look up the specifications and see how much they weigh beforehand.
If you find yourself at a gym or over a friend’s house and you’re not sure how much their bar weighs, find a scale and see for yourself.
To make it easier on you we went ahead and weighed the top four bars of each class, scroll down to see how each one weighed in.
Why Is It Important To Know How Much Your Curl Bar Weighs
you need to keep track of how much weight you use every week to see how you’re progressing.
You can’t write down what you’re lifting if you don’t know how much the plates and the bar weighs.
The different types of bars don’t vary in weight too much.
If you’re going from a gym to a home workout, you’ll want to use what you’re used to; knowing how much your bar weighs will make it easier to buy a curl bar for your home gym.
How Much Does A Standard Curl Bar weigh
The top four most popular curl bars average 12 pounds, are 47″ long, and have 6.5″ threaded ends.
Your standard curl bars are pretty simple in design, and this leads them to be much lighter.
All they consist of is threaded ends to screw your collars on to after you load the bar.
You will always use standard plates with one inch holes, never use Olympic weights with a standard bar.
How Much Does A standard Olympic Curl Bar Weigh
The average Olympic curl bar weighs in at 18 pounds. This is due to it having a 2′ thick body and rotating ends.
It will only work with 2″ Olympic weights.
Olympic curl bars look very similar to each other, so if you’re not sure, you will only have a weight discrepancy of a few pounds at the most.
How Much Does A Super Angled Curl bar weigh
These types of curl bars have exaggerated curves between the shafts and weigh an average of 18 pounds.
They’re almost always made to be used with Olympic weights.
What’s The Heaviest Curl bar
The most massive EZ curl bar I’ve ever used or seen is the deluxe CAP 58″ curl bar; it weighs 30 pounds, is 57″ long, and has 9″ long shafts for being able to put on extra weight.
I found that it was a lot more balanced for exercises where you were using heavier amounts of weight.
You’re also able to rack it since it’s longer than your average curl bar.
How Heavy Are rackable Curl Bars
The average weight for a rackable curl bar is 35 pounds.
They tend to be between 74 and 80 inches with shafts between 10 to 11 inches.
The advantage with these types of EZ bars is that you can load them while standing, and you can start the exercise at the starting position rather than having to bend down and pick up the weight.
What to Look For In A Curl bar Before Buying
There are a few things you should consider before buying a curl bar to make sure it ill work for what you’re trying to accomplish and the set up you have.
The type of weight you want to use with it.
If you already own weights depending on if they’re standard or Olympic will tell you if you should buy a standard or an Olympic curl bar.
The angle of the grips
If you look at different EZ curl bars, you’ll notice that other manufacturers change the angle in between the weight shafts.
No matter which one yo buy, they will always be ergonomic and better for your wrists, but some people prefer certain angles over others.
I tend to like the more traditional bars that don’t have such a dramatic angle.
If you’re unsure which one you would prefer, go to a sporting goods store and try out the different bars to see what feels the most natural.
Maximum Allowed Weight
You won’t be using a ton of weight on a curl bar, but you want to make sure that you can add weight to it as you become stronger.
Another reason these bars can’t hold a lot of weight is generally because they are cheaper brands that aren’t made very well.
Exercise equipment is not one of those areas in life where you want to be cheap.
Knurling or grip
The knurling is the texture or grip put into the metal to make sure that your hands don’t slip.
Didn’t the manufacturers will make put the knurling on different areas of the bar.
Cheaper brands will use less knurling, and more expensive bars will have knurling from shaft to shaft.
If you only use certain grips when using a curl bar, then you must need to make sure you have knurling where you will be placing your hands.
Advantages Of Using A Curl Bar Over A straight Barbell
Protects your wrists
The angled bars on a curl bar gives you a more natural grip for your wrist so that you don’t put as much stress on it during specific exercises.
The perfect tool for the job
The curl bar is the perfect tool for isolating the bicep and tricep muscles, you can do moves to target your biceps and triceps with a straight bar, but it won’t be as productive.
Relieves pressure on joints
The EZ curl bar will take the stress off of your shoulders, elbows, and wrists.
This will allow you to continue to increase your reps; when using a straight bar, you may have to stop before you exhausted your biceps due to elbow or shoulder pain.
Doing curls with a seven-foot-long Olympic bar is sometimes a pain in the as or not possible at all if you don’t have the room.
If you have the budget, make sure you have the right piece of equipment. Not only will it give you better results, but it will also knock down your chances of injuring yourself.

Exercises You’ll Perform with a curl bar
You should always know the specifications of your exercise equipment.
This will allow you always to know if you have enough room to perform the exercise correctly and to learn what to track.
If you don’t know what your curl bar weighs, there is no way for you to write down what you’re lifting accurately, and you won’t be able to see if you’re progressing and getting stronger over time.
